Day 3 - Wednesday, February 16, 2011



Kuala Muda District - Vector Unit
We were there inside the seminar room of Dewan Kekwa the next day before 8.30am.
Today KPPKP TnHjBakri discuss about the most common vector-borne disease in Kuala Muda, which is dengue,malaria followed by filariasis.  

The incidence, fatality rate of dengue and distribution by age group is discussed and  is shown by the following table.


  





The objective of this unit is to controland prevent  the spread of the vector-borne disease so that can reduce the cases of the disease especially dengue{which ishighest of Kedah state}


Besides, he also discuss about the life cycle of dengue, and symptoms of dengue in detail:



Then he talk about the common places for mosquito to breed and how they perform their duties to destroy the breeding places:





Then he show us the book of destruction of disease-bearing insects act and regulations:
This book provides the information of the act to destruction and prevention of disease-bearing
insects. It also contains the general penalty (fine and imprisonment) and control of the spread of infectious disease.


Our day couldn't be more happier without going for a trip later that afternoon !!!


And before that, we spotted a car... ...

Second section: Outdoor activity 
The Pejabat Kesihatan Van which carried Mr Burke and his people to Taman Semarak (all of them were ready to conduct the fogging)


In the taman there was a sewage plant ( which could be the cause of the dengue outbreak in this area)


This was the gadget used to conduct the indoor fogging ( the poison can last for up to 200meter) 




Mr Burke was explaining about the types of poison used for outdoor fogging and indoor fogging.

 All of us including the residents was ask to go into the house or the car                                            while the outdoor fogging was being conducted.
